Hello! My name is Chris Barnhart, and I have always wanted to make a short film, but the opportunity never presented itself. Three days ago I found this challenge through my fellow NASA Social Alumni. I wrote the script for our short film "The Selected" in one day.
I've written a One Act stage play; that was in 2003 for my high school senior project but never a screenplay. Let alone one that needs to be written, filmed, finished, and submitted in less than a month! I decided right away who my leading man would be, and he is a contributing writer, along with my wife, to the script. Aaron came up with the name "The Selected," which tells the story of the launch and landing of 4 brave astronauts, including a handsome mission commander, and a botanist who knows her plants! This horticultural team will be the first to land. I have to stop telling the story there.
The script was written on GoogleDocs, and I opened it up to collaboration with my team. I wrote the entire script over the course of 3 hours. 1 hour at night, and then I felt overwhelmed. At some point, the next day, we grew in momentum. My leading man signed on, my leading lady signed on, and now the original script is done.
Tomorrow morning at 11 am, I am meeting with my leading man for a reading. Today I am filling out filming requests for KSC Visitor Complex, and trying to find the best orange jumpsuits I can within a $0 budget.
