Hi Everyone! Thank you for volunteering as science advisers for this art and film competition! My first question is what makes Orion versatile enough to be used for very different missions - that is the Asteroid Redirect Mission and Mars?

Hi Mayisha, thanks for asking. We've intentionally designed Orion to be versatile, so that it can support numerous missions like ARM or Orbiting the Moon, or even docking to the Deep Space Gateway(DSG). Launch and Landing are the dominate aspects to many of the components of Orion, so destination and mission duration are not major factors for them. For systems such as the life support systems for the crew, and power systems that are influenced by destination and duration, we work hard to make the requirements generic enough, and proven capabilities broad enough that it gives our mission planners the ability to support various missions. For example, they can adjust crew size, or mission duration. For missions to the DSG, Orion may be able to share resources or power down, similar to vehicles that visit the ISS today.
