Just wanted to ask what exactly this mission will attempt to do, other then go to mars obviously. For example, are they trying to put people on mars or are they just remaining in orbit for a couple months? If the case is that they are attempting to put people on mars, what kind of lander would they use? If there is no lander yet designed, can i just model my own, or does it need to have the Orion capsule and SLS rocket? Should we try avoid unknown parts of the mission such as those i have mentioned? Will parachutes be used upon landing? Sorry if this is mentioned elsewhere, i just thought id clarify before i spend too much time doing the wrong thing. Cheers

Thanks for your interest. The mission to Mars starts with NASA's Space Launch System and Orion. The rest is up to your imagination.

So, as long as SLS/ORION is included in the beginning, does the destination HAVE TO BE MARS? I know what the contest is called but other SLS mission destinations are being discussed in media.
